San Pedro Coffee Featured in The Age's 2026 Essential Melbourne Cafes & Bakeries Guide
San Pedro Coffee Named in The Age's 100 Essential Melbourne Cafes and Bakeries for 2026
Recognition like this is always rewarding, especially when it comes through the success of one of our wholesale partners.
Elka Bakery in Heidelberg has been included in Good Food's 100 Essential Melbourne Cafes and Bakeries for 2026, the annual guide published by The Age. Among the bakery's standout pastries and sandwiches, the review also gives a nod to the coffee being served behind the counter: San Pedro Coffee.
A standout neighbourhood bakery
Published on 24 July 2026, the review describes Elka as a polished concrete and timber bakery that has quickly become a favourite with locals and workers from Heidelberg's nearby medical precinct.
The food is the obvious drawcard. Good Food highlights the mortadella, pistachio pesto and stracciatella focaccia, along with the classic ham-and-pickle baguette. Also noting that the cabinets tend to empty quickly once the lunch rush begins.
The bakery's cinnamon scrolls, finished with cream cheese icing earned the publication's "must order" recommendation.
When it comes to coffee, the recommendation is equally straightforward, order a San Pedro brew for a quick caffeine hit alongside your pastry or sandwich.
Why it matters
One of the things we value most about Good Food reviews is their independence. Reviews are conducted anonymously, paid for by the publication and venues cannot buy their way into the guide.
For us, it's gratifying to see our coffee mentioned by name as part of an experience that reviewers genuinely enjoyed. It reflects the care Elka puts into every part of its offering, from the baking to the coffee served across the counter.

Elka Bakery
120 Burgundy Street, Heidelberg VIC 3084
Known for its house-baked focaccia, fresh baguettes, cinnamon scrolls and San Pedro coffee, Elka is well worth a visit if you're in Melbourne's north-east. Just don't leave it too late the favourites have a habit of selling out.
Not Elka's first mention in The Age
This isn't the first time Elka has caught Good Food's attention. Back in November 2025, The Age featured Elka in a roundup of six hot new Melbourne bakeries worth lining up for.
That piece introduced owner Michael Younan (ex-Sourdough Kitchen), who said he hears from grateful locals "multiple times a week" about finally having an outpost of the bakery (Melbourne's fourth in Heidelberg) . The write-up highlighted the minimalist, spacious fit-out and the signature bakes for the store as well as also going into detail about the bakery's process. This three day lamination process extends to the pastries and sourdough loaves that are made with heritage stone-ground flour sourced from the Yarra Ranges for a soft crumb and dark crust.
Two features in under a year is a strong signal Elka has staying power in Melbourne's bakery scene and by extension, a strong signal for the coffee program running alongside it.
Great coffee works best with great partners
We're proud to work with cafés and bakeries that care as much about coffee as they do about the food they serve.
Seeing San Pedro recognised alongside one of Melbourne's best new bakery destinations is a reminder that a thoughtful coffee program can become part of what people remember and what reviewers notice.
If you're looking for a wholesale coffee partner that can help elevate your café or bakery, we'd love to have a conversation.
